How to Fight Dengue

Simple steps to combat dengue infection:

  • Eliminate Mosquito Breeding Sites:Regularly check and empty containers like flower pots, discarded tires, and other items that can hold stagnant water.
  • Use Mosquito Repellents:Apply repellents containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus on exposed skin and clothing.
  • Wear Protective Clothing:Wear long sleeves and pants, especially during peak mosquito activity hours (sunrise and sunset).
  • Use Mosquito Nets:Sleep under a mosquito net, especially in areas with high mosquito populations.
  • Screen Doors and Windows:Use screens on doors and windows to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.

Treatment (if infected):

  • Rest and Hydration:Get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids, including water, oral rehydration solutions, or juices.
  • Acetaminophen for Pain:Use acetaminophen (paracetamol) for fever and pain relief. Avoid ibuprofen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs, as they can increase the risk of bleeding.
  • Seek Medical Advice:Consult a doctor for proper diagnosis and management of symptoms. Severe dengue can be life-threatening, so seek immediate medical care if symptoms worsen.
